Orange man arraigned in connection with stabbing

James Gonzalez, 29, of Orange was arraigned in Orange District Court today on multiple charges in connection with an incident in Orange Monday in which a 71-year-old woman was stabbed.
Due to questions related to the defendant’s competency, and concerns over COVID, the defendant was not physically present during today’s hearing.
He was ordered committed to Bridgewater State Hospital for further evaluations regarding competency and criminal responsibility. The defendant is held without right to bail and the Commonwealth has reserved the right to argue for 58A detention when he is returned to court.
The next court date is February 12, 2021 for status.
