Update on defendants in March 2018 death of Northampton man

Today, Alondra E. Gil, 23, of Northampton, was scheduled to appear in the Hampshire Superior Court for a pre-trial hearing in a case arising out of the investigation into the death of Daniel Cruz in Northampton on March 10, 2018.  Gil was indicted by a Hampshire Grand Jury on May 8, 2018, for Perjury after she allegedly provided false and material testimony in the Grand Jury.  She was previously arraigned in that case on May 9, 2018, and released on $3,500 cash bail by the Court.

She failed to appear in court today and a warrant issued for her arrest.  This warrant is in addition to the warrant previously issued by the Hampshire Superior Court on Nov. 26, after Gil was indicted by a Hampshire Grand Jury that same date on charges of Accessory After the Fact, Burning Personal Property, Withholding Evidence from Criminal Proceeding, Conspiracy (two counts), and Improper Disposition of a Human Body, all in relation to the death of Daniel Cruz.

A Hampshire Grand Jury, on Nov. 26, 2018, issued a total of 51 indictments against eight individuals for their alleged involvement in the murder of Cruz, 44, of Northampton, the concealment of his murder, and/or the subsequent police and grand jury investigation.  Gil is the last of the eight individuals to be arrested or, in the case of individuals already in custody, scheduled for arraignment.

Nerkin Omar Morales, 22 of Northampton, was indicted for Murder and other charges. He was arraigned on Dec. 5 and ordered held without bail.

Mercedes N. Diaz-Wright, 22, of Northampton, Kimberly A. Perez, 26, of Springfield, and Matthew M. Ross, 24, of Northampton, were indicted for Accessory after the Fact as well as other charges.  They were arrested and arraigned on Nov. 27.   

Pedro J. Soto-Rodriguez, 21, of Northampton, was indicted for Accessory after the Fact and other charges.  He is in custody and his arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 13 at 9 a.m.

Joshua T. Ealy, 20, of Northampton, was indicted for Perjury.  His is in custody and his arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 2 p.m.

Chelsea T. Rodriguez, 22, of Northampton, was indicted for Accessory after the Fact and other charges.  Following an investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, West Team, Rodriguez was arrested on December 6, 2018, in DeLand, Florida, by the DeLand Police Department.  She is currently in custody in Florida pending extradition back to the Commonwealth.
