Observer sustains non-life threatening gunshot wound during Athol PD firearms training


Earlier today, a civilian observer was accidentally wounded during a scheduled Athol Police Department firearms training session in Athol.  

The victim sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper rear leg area, and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. 

The Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident, with full cooperation from the Athol Police Department. 

The Town of Athol will also be conducting its own internal review of the incident. ​​
