Georgia man sentenced in 2016 Hadley rape

Patrick K. Amara Jr., 23, of Georgia, was sentenced by Judge Mark D Mason in Hampshire Superior Court today to 5 years in state prison followed by three years of probation after having been found guilty of 3 counts of rape.

A Hampshire County Jury on Monday found Amara guilty of raping a young woman at an April 30, 2016 party in Hadley.

Prosecutors ADA Erin Aiello and ADA Jennifer Suhl, chief of the Adult Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Unit, requested that Amara be sentenced to 5-7 years on two counts and five years of probation from and after his state prison time on the remaining count.

Amara’s defense attorney, John Drake, requested that Amara be placed on probation.

Amara will also be required to register as a sex offender, participate in sex offender evaluation and counseling, as well as substance abuse evaluation, with recommended follow-up including that he remain alcohol free, if in treatment; abide by all active restraining orders, stay away from and have no contact with the victim and to provide a DNA sample.
