A female pedestrian has died after being struck by a car near the intersection of Routes 9 and 202 in Belchertown, Thursday, Aug. 17 before 11:30 p.m.
Police say the vehicle was heading east on Route 9, turning right onto Route 202 when the collision occurred.
Belchertown police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office and MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services are investigating.

Based upon the results of an investigation conducted by the Belchertown Police and the Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, as well as the preliminary findings of the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS), the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has determined that no criminal charges will be pursued in connection with a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in Belchertown on August 17, 2017.
Margaret F. Kemp, 65, of Belchertown, was struck in the roadway near the intersection of Routes 9 and 202 just before 11:30 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries she sustained in the collision. The driver of the car that struck her remained at the scene and was cooperative with authorities. Neither drug nor alcohol use was a factor in the collision, nor was cellphone use.
The District Attorney’s Office has conveyed its decision not to pursue criminal charges to the Kemp family, and expresses its deepest condolences for Ms. Kemp’s loss.
