Athol man arraigned on murder charge today in 2013 death


Christopher Vinsant, 30, of Athol, was arraigned, today, in Hampshire Superior Court on a count of Murder and of Assault and Battery on a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

Judge Mary-Lou Rup ordered him held without the right to bail without prejudice. He will be held at Franklin County Jail and House of Correction.

Vinsant is scheduled to return to Franklin Superior Court for a pre-trial hearing on Sept. 8, 2017.

A Franklin County Grand Jury, on Friday, April 7, indicted Vinsant  on one count of murder in connection with the July 10, 2013 death of Isaiah Buckner, 10, of Athol.

Buckner was in Vinsant's care, when he was rushed to the hospital with abdominal trauma, from which he later died. 

The case was investigated by Athol Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office.

All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
