Amherst man sentenced to prison in child rape case


Anthony Florio Jr., 35, of Amherst pleaded guilty today in Hampshire Superior Court to Enticement of a Child Under 16, Rape and Abuse of a Child Under 16 and 3 counts of Dissemination of Obscene Materials Harmful to a Minor in connection with incidents in Amherst during 2016-2017.

Florio, formerly a volunteer basketball coach at Amherst Regional High School, admitted to sharing sexual images on social media with a 14-year-old girl and  committing statutory rape.

He was sentenced to Judge Karen Goodwin to 3-5 years in state prison followed by 6 years of probation with numerous conditions, including that he wear a GPS tracker and stay away from all minors under the age of 16 without supervision, among many other conditions. Florio will be credited with 617 days of time served.

The sentence was based on a joint agreement by Assistant District Attorney Anne Yereniuk, the prosecutor, and Attorney Alfred Chamberland.​​
