Dangerousness hearing to be held Wednesday
Northfield man arraigned on charges stemming from threat to Franklin County school

GREENFIELD – A Northfield man faces criminal charges in connection with an incident that led to a shelter-in-place order at Northfield Elementary School Friday afternoon.

Theodore R. Sweeney Jr., 46, of Millers Falls Road, pleaded not guilty today in Greenfield District Court to these charges: threatening to commit a school shooting; two counts of threatening to commit a crime; and disturbing the peace.

At the request of Northwestern Assistant District Attorney Aidan Lanciani, Greenfield District Court Judge William F. Mazanec III ordered Sweeney held without bail pending the results of a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning. Sweeney was represented in court by defense attorney Colin O’Brien.

The incident was investigated by Northfield Police after school staff notified them of the threats. Following their investigation, police arrested Sweeney and he was held over the weekend on $300,000.00 cash bail.

Criminal charges are based on probable cause to believe a person has committed a crime. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
