Northampton teenager succumbs to injuries after being hit by truck

Authorities are investigating the circumstances under which a 19-year-old Florence man died after being hit by a truck in a remote corn field in Hatfield late Friday night.

Jesse Johansmeyer, 19, of Burts Pit Road, succumbed to injuries early in the morning hours of March 25 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. after a bonfire in a remote section known as the Hatfield meadows off Great Neponset Road and South Street near the Connecticut River. The driver of the white pickup truck that struck Johansmeyer left the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Hatfield Police, State Police detectives assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section.
