Greenfield bus driver held as dangerous

Steven Connell, 38, of Gill was ordered held without the right to bail at a Greenfield District Court dangerousness hearing today, July 8, in connection with a June 4  incident in which he is alleged to have tried to hit a man and two children with the Franklin County Regional Transit bus he was driving.

Connell's next court date is August 7, 2020. He will continue to be held at Franklin County House of Correction. 

According to Greenfield police, Connell had attempted to hit the three passengers, after they exited his bus near Hope Street.

He allegedly then got off the crashed bus, chased after the man, and attacked him until a Greenfield firefighter intervened, pulling him off the victim. 

Connell was arraigned in June on the following charges:

  • a civil rights violation
  • three counts of assault with intent to murder while armed
  • four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
  • assault and battery
  • assault on ambulance personnel
  • negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  • marked lanes violation​​
