CONSUMER ADVISORY: Federal Communications Commission Issues Periodic "Truth About Wireless Phones and the National Do Not Call List" Advisory
The Northwestern District Attorney's Office advises consumers NOT to believe emails warning of a (non-existing) wireless telephone directory supposedly allowing telemarketers to flood cell phone users with unsolicited sales calls.
According the Federal Communications Commission 1) a wireless 411 directory is only in the idea stage and 2) ever if there were one established, most telemarketig calls to wireless phones would still be illegal!
An email that has recently been in circulation exhorts consumers to place a call from their cell phone to add their names to a NON-EXISTING wireless phone Do- Not-Call registry. In fact, the federal government does NOT maintain and is NOT establishing one.
If you receive an unwanted telemarketing call that you think violates the Do-Not_call rules, you can file a complaint with the FCC by calling 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322) voice or 1-888-TELL-FCC (1-888-835-5322) TYY; by fax at 1-866-418-0232 or by writing:
